LightSquared debacle proves that the Government does a few, very few, things right.

I was very glad to see that the FCC and the powers that be in Washington finally made a good choice. While it doesn’t happen very often, every once in awhile they will make a good call on something. The towers and the frequencies that LightSquared were going to invest in would have crippled an entire industry for the sake of their own gain in the name of technology. This would not have been an acceptable plan. The Government agencies did their due diligence and came to the same conclusion which was a pleasant surprise to most I am sure.
Don’t worry, it won’t last long before they have botched another critical decision. Better enjoy this one while we can.
GPS should be a tool of convienience, not a tool of fear.

Check the news lately? Apparently governments all over the globe have decided, without asking us, that tracking us with GPS is just fine. Now I know that my phone is tracking me. How do I know? I know because I have to turn that feature on and I like the features that it gives me. I like knowing that there is a coffee place right around the corner from me. Or a pizza joint or an ice cream parlor or whatever it is. This does not make me nervous because I have nothing to hide and I guess I am a trusting individual and know that no one cares where I am going including the government.
However, I could see where this could get to be an issue so the same rules should apply to this technology as to all of the other surveillance technology out there. For example, if the police need to track a criminal or someone they suspect is a criminal I have no issues with them using GPS but they should have to follow steps to get there just like with a wiretap. Same with our phones. If the cops want to track my phone then they should have to get a judge to allow the phone company to give up my location. If the cops, or the government, can just slap a GPS on any vehicle they like or start tracking my phone because they just want to, then we have lost our freedoms and it will be all downhill from there.
Criminals have forfeited their rights as soon as they break the law as far as I am concerned. But this still has to be proven and must be proven legally.
I guess that is what we are talking about here. What is legal and what is not and who gets to decide.
Probably won’t be us.
New Technology keeps on coming and we don’t even realize how far we have come.

How many of you remember when we only had 3 channels on the TV? How about before we had microwaves? or before we had video games, digital watches and clocks, cell phones, personal computers, calculators…I could go on and on. I remember the first calculator that my Dad bought in the 70′s for over 100.00 from Radio Shack. It only had the one line, the numbers were red, and not a digital display but more like LED lights. At the time we were amazed. Now it would be laughed at.
We have become so accustomed to new and better technology that we don’t even remember when or where we came from. It took years for technology to develop during our grandparents day and now new and better cell phones and the latest crazes come out every day and we are addicted to them. Can you imagine trying to live without your cell phone? No way. The newest iPhone actually talks back to you when you ask it a question. That is amazing to me.
How many of you remember the map? They still have them for those of you that have not invested in a GPS navigator yet. They fold up and unfold for you to be able to find where you are going. There used to be, and still is in some vehicles, an actual place for them in the front of the car. Now most of us would be using Google maps and just print the directions to where you are going but if you are caught somewhere and need directions you can still get one in a pinch. I haven’t bought a map in years. Since I have had navigators on my phone and in my car I never get lost and I love the technology.
GPS is a modern marvel and gives us so many options in life. Conveniences that our parents and grandparents only dreamed about that are now realities. As a boss you can see and monitor your assets whether hardware or software (equipment or people) 24/7 and never be out of the loop. Here at Team TSI we are a huge part of making that a reality for people. www.team-tsi.com/fleet.htm
I wonder what will be over the horizon for us and technology. How much longer before Star Trek-esque things begin to happen.
I can’t wait to find out.
GPS Benefits outweigh costs in the long run. Quality Installation is a big part of the answer.

In this day and age is is the “in” thing to pinch pennies and be very cost conscious. With gas prices rising, and grocery prices increasing every day some if us have no choice but to track every dollar. No to mention the fact that if you are running a small business it is absolutely imperative.
So what can you do to save money? You have to run your vehicles, which includes gas, insurance, and maintenance; you have to open your office which includes utilities, rent, phones, computers, supplies and more. You have to pay your people which includes unemployment insurance, workers comp, 401k matches and on and on. So how are we supposed to get ahead? What can we do to save. One answer is outfitting your fleet with GPS tracking devices.
Now I know, you think that this is a great way to spy on your employees or your horrified at the idea of spying on your employees. First of all, that would be unethical, but tracking units do afford you an additional measure of accountability with your people. While you may be uncomfortable with this at first just think to yourself how many times you have wanted to know why you could not get hold of that sales rep in the middle of the day or why they had so many miles on their vehicle but so few contacts. With a GPS tracking device you can see where, and how, they are getting to that appointment. Are they taking the long way around the park, killing time and wasting your gas in the process? That is the benefit of installing GPS tracking devices into all of your company assets…to save time and money.
How do you select the units that you like? The sales department at any quality GPS manufacturer can help you analyze what the needs of your company or family are. If you are not sure where to start, one Google search can point you in the right direction. Now you have the units, how do you get them into your vehicles? Does it really matter who puts them in? Can’t the unit manufacturer handle that for me? Not necessarily. The idea here is to get these units into your vehicles and working so they start to pay dividends right away. The last thing you want is for them to be installed incorrectly and now they are a liability, not an asset. In some cases I have even seen poor installation companies damage vehicles to the point that they had to be off the road for a time and that is really something you don’t want to run into.
Make sure that if the GPS manufacturer does not have a company that they use and trust then you tell them Team TSI is there only company you will use. We have 13 years in the business and many more years than that under the dash of 265,000 vehicles so you know we can be trusted. High quality and “World Class” customer service are the backbone of what we stand for and we stand behind our work 100%.
Don’t let a junk installation ruin a great investment in your vehicles and your business. Go with Team TSI today.
